A method of controlling an air separation plant and a control system to optimize production of an argon product produced by the plant. The usefulness metric is separate from the enhancement algorithm such that a variety of different enhancement algorithms can be used in conjunction with the metric. The distortion, though often small, may make the original image unacceptable for medical applications, or for military and law enforcement applications where an image must be inspected under unusual viewing conditions.
