Apparatus and methods are disclosed for pigtailing optical integrated circuits, wherein optical integrated circuits comprise a shelf upon which optical fibers are located, which provides for passive vertical alignment of fiber arrays with OIC waveguides. The system includes a controller disposed within the system that is capable of receiving user input through an internet connection. The invention further relates to a method for braiding fibers into a braided structure.
