Various systems and methods are described for controlling a diesel aftertreatment system coupled to an exhaust system of an engine which includes a selective catalytic reduction catalyst and a diesel particulate filter. The method utilizes a predictive model so that combustion can be controlled over a wide range of operating conditions while maintaining optimum operation with respect to efficiency and emissions. In addition, such methods comprising admixtures containing GM-CSF and at least one other protein are also disclosed.
