Data packets of varying size are received into a receiver buffer and quantified by a byte counter to determine an amount of data in the receiver buffer at a given time. The voltage supply unit includes a power unit to supply a voltage to the at least one electronic circuit and a control unit to control an operating mode of the power unit, an output of the control unit coupled to an input of the power unit. A latch provides the selective connection, and includes three positions: a first latched position wherein the circuitry within the first and second housing units is electrically connected; a second latched position wherein the circuitry is disconnected; and a disconnected position where the first and second housing portions can be separated from one another.
