A system and method for inspecting a multi-layer sample, such as a silicon wafer, is disclosed. In various embodiments, financial institutions can be alerted when a financial instrument such as a check is being tendered for deposit, wherein a previous deposit for that same instrument had previously been submitted at the same or a different financial institution. The brake input device can be used in a brake system including a brake system control unit, one or more electro-mechanical actuator controllers and a brake assembly including one or more electrical actuators. The design can be readily incorporated into microfluidic chips without the need for special manufacturing protocols.
