Methods and kits are provided for staining cell membranes using a biotinylated phospholipid in conjunction with streptavidin-coated quantum dots. In one embodiment, the fastener is a nut and bolt combination, and in another embodiment the fastener is a two-part rivet. 4 nm and a single functional moiety bonded to the nanoparticle core, wherein the single functional moiety does not contain a nucleic acid molecule that includes 100 or more nucleotides. The segment that is specified by the metadata is obtained, and a start time for rendering the segment from the metadata is derived.
