The present invention features a method for use by a printer connected to a host to guarantee that the host receives current status from the printer in response to any issued command, not merely a request for status command. The object requires more support than can be provided by the external panel and it is also connected to a sub-surface support. Tools to which such appliances are attached in accordance with the invention are also disclosed.
