An aberration detecting method of the present invention is arranged such that a light beam, having passed through a two-element objective lens which is an optical convergence system provided in an optical pickup device, illuminates a flat area of an optical disk, and using the light beam which has been reflected, the aberration occurring in the two-element objective lens is detected. A controller may be positioned in electrical communication with an emergency alert system, a sensor carried by the sensor housing and the light source. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the pipelined architecture allows for a second burst read operation to be initiated prior to completion of the first, such that the sense latency periods for all but the first of a series of successive burst read operations are hidden, enabling the memory device to perform comparably to a memory device having conventional flash memory cells. The process of assembling the modular germicidal system may comprise mounting the electric discharge lamp fixture to the other electric discharge lamp fixture, wherein the electric discharge lamp fixture receives substantial mechanical support solely from at least the other electric discharge lamp fixture.
