A mechanism for enabling a user to treat 3D scan data model regions as surface bodies so as to eliminate the need to convert model regions to parametric surfaces as a prerequisite to performing part body modeling operations is discussed. Lithographic masks are used to remove unwanted portions from the intermediate lens structures and to remove cut-out portions from the intermediate lens structures to alter the radius of the resultant micro-lenses. The device has an expandable linkage positioned at one end of the device and expansion of this linkage causes a first radially extending flange to fold outward.
