A hypervisor and one or more guest operating systems resident in a data processing system and hosted by the hypervisor are configured to selectively enable or disable branch prediction logic through separate hypervisor-mode and guest-mode instructions. A numerical method is then used to predict the output field that is created when an incident field is diffracted by the subject. The input data is processed by each model and the resulting predictions are combined to yield a final prediction of which state of activity is represented by the input data.
