A display plate manufactured of one or more or a combination of opaque, translucent and transparent materials is positioned adjacent or proximate to a non-reflective side of each housing to display any of alphanumeric characters, symbols andor designs utilizing the device without illumination during the daylight hours and with illumination during non-daylight hours. The advantages of the method described by this invention will be most noticeable when high bandwidth devices are communicating with each other on the same electrical segment, for example a HDTV receiver communicating with a HDTV monitor in the same room.
