An interlocking interface retains a screw head in a socket to prevent migration of the screw head out of the socket, or to lock the screw head in the socket. A large pulse of current is delivered to the coils to generate a magnetic field that is sufficiently strong to precondition the disk. The method may complete a read as a success when a host IO is a read command.
