Our invention relates generally to an optical switch and an optical router to rapidly route signals from particular channels within an optical band by using optical switches which utilize a controlled whispering gallery mode resonance of dielectric microspheres to optically switch signals. The transparent lidded apparatus is motorized and counter rotates drive gears and then ceramic abrasive wheels with a single motor. Other embodiments are disclosed. The fourth to last mirror in the beam path is concave, resulting in an imaging optical system having improved imaging properties without compromise in throughput.
