A circuit in an optical readwrite device for protecting synchronizing patterns is proposed. The input section receives input patterns that include a pattern belonging to one of plural categories constituting a category set. Based on these inputs, using proprietary programming the steering control computer calculates the rate, timing and direction to turn the rear wheels.
