The thermal conductivity of a sample of interest is measured by applying backing material to a sensor to substantially surround the sensor with the backing material and the tested material. The DVGA may be advantageously designed and located as described herein. Alternatively, if actual synchronization exceeds the first range, attempts to synchronize the signals are suspended and non-synchronized decompressed audio and video signals are provided.
