A non-contact apparatus removes translational energy of a first magnetic assembly when it is moved through the magnetic field of a second magnet. The port is selectively in fluid communication with the third valve outlet and inlet. Each scan gate further includes a scan circuit that accepts scan control signals and couples to one or more scan registers in a RAM-like architecture. The system is low cost and extremely easy to use. An engine comprising a CVVL apparatus is also disclosed.
