An RFID tag is powered both by an internal battery and passively by an interrogating RF field. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a device for measuring a body-tissue water content metric as a fraction of the fat-free tissue content of a patient using optical spectrophotometry. In one instance of the present invention, error graph, junction tree, and min-sum propagation algorithms are utilized to obtain an optimization from discriminatively selected density models.
