A method of preparing a composition comprising dry mixing commercial grade alumina and a solid sulfating agent to form a mixture and calcining the mixture to form a sulfated alumina support. The apparatus includes a brain-cooling probe and a control console. Alternately, this can be accomplished by substituting a higher density gas for air which has the same effect.
