A scanningimaging system wherein an external stimulus is used for exciting a device under test. In one embodiment, a method includes electrostatically decoupling a separate structure and a surface that are magnetically coupled, shifting the separate structure between the surface and a other surface with the electrostatic force, and magnetically coupling the separate structure to the other surface. The device, and methods that may be practiced in association with the device, enable a wide range of medical conditions to be treated including, for example, the application of a barrier to soft tissue to prevent post-surgical adhesions. The present invention utilizes network adapters to transfer data in a more efficient manner.
