A testing apparatus is described with a housing, a power source, a carrier assembly, and a backbone connecting the carrier assembly to the power source. Data may be located by information maintained in a filesystem; each data block is stored in either the read-only storage or the read-write storage. Also, unique drive or shift assemblies for the carrier and probe assembly are disclosed for allowing precision movements thereof in the vacuum chamber.
