A power unit is configured to drive the transparency regulation element to darken the first lens system without substantially darkening at least a portion of the second lens system during a first period, and, during a second period after the first period, to not drive the transparency regulation element to darken the first lens system. Parameters that may be used to determine the data transmission rate include rover demand, required rover accuracy, satellite positioning system events, the required data for ambiguities, and the type and content of the data transmitted. The system further includes a power stage configured to generate an output voltage based on the PWM signal.
