A glove liner which can be used in harsh environments to protect the user’s hand from cuts and burns is disclosed. A state machine operates according to plural shift states to control each scan path in capturing data from response outputs of the combinational logic and then shifting one bit at a time to reduce the capacitive and constant state power consumed by shifting the scan paths. The locking element may be brought out of engagement with the drive element in the radial direction relative to the drive axis on energizing the drive motor.
